Have you thought of giving meditation a try? There are lots of really good reasons why meditation is good for you. In fact, meditation is a wonderful way to quiet your mind. In these days of a lot of stress, being able to take some time for quiet meditation is a good thing!
There are a number of reasons why you should give meditation a try.
Here is a list of the top four health benefits as to why you should put meditation on your daily to-do list!
Meditation Has Many Health Benefits
There is a number of studies that show meditation has a positive impact on a person’s health. When you train your mind it can have a positive impact on improving the health of your body and your mind.
#1 – Heart Health
One of the ways you can lower cholesterol and blood pressure is by having a daily meditation practice. This is a good thing as it means a healthier heart.
#2 – Reducing Joint Diseases
Who knew that meditation would be able to help relieve chronic pain associated with arthritis and other joint diseases. It can also help to relieve stiffness in the joints.
#3 – Sleep Problems
If you have trouble sleeping or find you have a lot of fatigue, meditation can help you to be able to sleep better. When we have a good night’s sleep, fatigue during the day is reduced.
Also, getting a good night’s sleep can help us to recover better from illnesses. Apparently, people who meditate find it much easier to not only stay asleep at night be to fall asleep quicker.
#4 – Say Goodbye to Stress
Meditation is a great way to relieve stress. It may not eliminate stress from your life completely, but it seems we are better able to cope with stress.
The benefit here is that mediation leads to a healthier body and mind and as a result, we don’t suffer as much from stress.
More Reasons to Meditate
If you are like most people, you probably spend more time taking care of other people such as your children or spouse rather than yourself.
It is important to take care of yourself. Otherwise, you won’t be able to take care of anyone else!
One way to take care of yourself through meditation is to block out some time as to when you are going to meditate. Make an appointment just like anything else you need to do.
You don’t have to meditate in your home. You can go to the beach or a park near your home. Just find a place that works for you.
If you have to, meditate in your car. Anywhere that is quiet and you can relax.
Make sure you turn off your phone unless of course, you are meditating with a video you are playing on the phone. In that case, turn off the ringer.
If you are at work, and you are stressed, find some time during your lunch hour to take a few minutes to meditate. You will be surprised how recharged you will feel for the rest of your workday.
This is one of my favorite meditations. Enjoy!

If you are new to meditation, you might have a number of questions. You probably will find that your mind is going to have some trouble staying calm. You might find that your thoughts are all over the place. Not to worry. This is normal.
Over time, you will be able to calm your mind and settle more into the practice of meditation.
It is important to appreciate that like anything new, we need to practice and meditation is no different.
There are a number of videos available or even books that can help you to understand more about meditation. Once you have a better understanding of what meditation is, you should be able to feel more capable of doing it every day.
Tips for Meditation
The first thing you want to do at the beginning of any meditation is to find a comfortable place to sit. You can sit in a chair or even cross-legged on the floor.
Start by focusing on your breathing. You want it to be slow and steady.
Take a deep breath through your nose and then release it through your mouth.
You need to be intentional about meditation. After all, it is a learned skill.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you will want to dress appropriately. It doesn’t have to be anything special, you just need to feel comfortable.
If you are doing meditation at work during your lunch hour, you might want to take off your shoes to make you more relaxed.
This is important. You should not feel rushed as that just cancels any benefit you might receive from meditating.
If you are not listening to a taped meditation, you can still do it. Begin by releasing tension in different parts of your body.
You should firstly focus on your feet. Release whatever tension you are feeling there. Next, move up to your ankles.
Focus on each part of your body, moving up from your feet until you get to the top of your head.
You don’t have to do anything other than focusing on relaxing each part of your body. Just make sure to breathe slowly as you do this.
Something else you can do before starting the meditation is to stretch your muscles. This is a good idea if you have been sitting for some time.
You don’t have to close your eyes; in fact, you can just find a focal point to focus on. This can be anything that makes you feel good.
Once you meditate for a period of time you will find that it is something you look forward to doing each day.
It is a time for you to find some solitude and you will feel more relaxed, less stressed out, and dare I say it; happier!
When meditating you want to be consistent. Find a time each day and even a location so that you make this a habit.

Tips for Successfully Meditating
Do you think that meditation is someone sitting on top of a mountain, legs crossed, and fingers poised? It certainly doesn’t have to look like that at all.
Meditation is really a very simple process. Here are a few tips for having a successful meditation practice.
#1 – Set Aside Some Time Each Day
Like anything else that you want to be successful at, you need to find the time to actually do it. Make an appointment with yourself.
When you are starting out you don’t have to do it every day. Start with one day a week or two and built it up to once a day. If that is your goal.
The more comfortable you get with meditating, the more often you will want to practice it.
Use your smartphone to schedule a reminder or put it in your digital calendar for a reminder to pop up at the time you have set aside.
You will be surprised that when you are intentional about meditating, how many gifts you will receive.
A more focused and calmer demeanor to start with. Or perhaps better sleep and certainly less stress!
#2 – Let People Know Your Intention
When you let close friends and family members know that you intend to practice meditation including when you help to keep yourself accountable.
This shows that you are being committed to the practice and you are disciplined enough to maintain this goal.
Let these people know that the reason you want to practice meditation is that you want a happier and more relaxed life.
This might even motivate other friends or family to meditate along with you.
It’s a great way to get support on this new journey you have decided to undertake!
#3 – Choose a Location
You will want to find a location where you won’t be disturbed. It needs to be a quiet place as well.
If you are lucky enough to have the room in your house, you could set up a meditation room. Add some comfortable pillows, a rug, and even scented candles and perhaps some flowers or plants.
It can just be a corner in your bedroom or in your living room. As long as you won’t be disturbed, the location doesn’t matter.
Claim some space and make it your meditation retreat!
#4 – Get Educated
There is plenty of material available on the benefits of meditating. Watch videos online, go to your favorite book store and get educational books to read.
When you have the information you need you will feel more compelled to practice meditation regularly.
Some Final Thoughts About Meditation
By getting the information you need and then by putting it into practice, you have set yourself up for an experience that will show some positive results.
Meditation is good for you. Get educated, find a quiet location, let family and friends know your intention, and get started practicing meditation regularly.
You will be glad you did!
