The Power of Saying No

There is power in being able to say no to people who like to take advantage. It is also necessary if you are going to want to manage your time. In fact, when it comes to the power of saying no, you get to have control over how you spend your time.

Most people have a big problem with saying no. This is probably because as a kid we were taught not to say no.

You probably are aware of two-year-olds who love saying no only to be told by their parents or other authority figures that no is unacceptable.

No wonder we have a problem with being able to say no. But we are not two-year-olds anymore, so it is time to take back the power of no.

The upside is that we end up having more time in our day to do what we really like to be able to do.

Why the Power of Saying No is Important:

You Get to Reduce Your Stress

You probably are aware that when you overschedule yourself, you end up getting terribly stressed.

By learning to say not, you will be able to reduce the amount of stress in your life. It may be hard to say no to people at first. But with practice, you will be able to handle it.

Power of Saying NoYou are going to find so much freedom in being able to say no that the fear will soon disappear.

You will be Regarding as Being More Professional

It is important to remember that nobody can do everything.

It is expected of a professional person that their schedule dictates what they are able to accomplish.

So, act like a professional and let people know that your schedule is already full.

You Will be Better at the Tasks You Really Want to Accomplish

When we are not spending time doing stuff we hate, we can spend more time being able to do the things we really enjoy doing.

As a result, we get more practice and become better at those things we are already like to do.

Spend Your Time Doing the Things You Want

Nobody wants to spend time doing things they dislike doing. However, we tend to say yes as a result of the lessons our moms taught us.

It is important to spend more time on projects or with clients that help pay your bills.

So say no to doing things you aren’t interested in doing and suggest that someone else can take on whatever they are asking of you.

You Will Receive More Respect

Let’s face it, nobody has any respect for a doormat.

You probably don’t want to look like a doormat to people.

Yes, you are trying to be helpful. But being taken advantage of, even by nice people, is just wasting your time.

We have probably noticed that it is usually the same people who end up doing all the work most of the time.

These are the yes people!

When You Say No, You Have an Opportunity Later to Say Yes

Okay, this might sound somewhat counter-intuitive however it’s true.

If you learn to say no to those things that don’t advance your life or your business in any way, you will have more time to say yes to those things that do.

You Won’t Get Over-Extended

Power of Saying NoWhen people say yes to everything they tend to do most things only halfway.

They in fact are not able to give their best.

They probably don’t mean to. It’s just that they have so much on their plate that they are not able to give it their best.

When you say no, you are able to avoid being embarrassed that you couldn’t do your best work.

Always, Always Check Your Calendar

This is super important.

Even, if you don’t have your calendar handy, always take a pause, and let the person know you will get back to them after you have checked your calendar.

There is nothing more embarrassing than saying yes to something only to find out after checking your calendar that you aren’t available.

By checking your calendar you are able to give some time to your thoughts as to whether or not you want to say yes or no.

The Best Way to Say No

The problem with saying no is that it leaves the door open for people to try and convince you to say yes.

How many times have you said no, but the person who wants you to do something gives you all the reasons why you should say yes.

Here is the best way to say no to these people: Thanks for asking, but that doesn’t work for me right now.

This closes the door. There is no more room to argue with you!
